The Linux TUI battle:

What is the TUI

The Touch User Interface

QT; GTK; .....

Like with the Graphical User Interface the library battleground is blocking Linux adaptation progress. The good news however is that Wayland finely is taking over from X11, making the personal device user interfacing one step more uniform on Linux platforms. The bad news is that now there is a TUI battle going on, slowing down Linux Smart Phone development. There are two platforms that are incompatible, namely: Gnome and QT (again).

Where is the hardware?

There are several Linux phones available today, all coming with the same disadvantages:
No stable and easy develop environment available (due to the TUI battles);
No trusted unified application purchase architecture or platform available.

Available:
PinePhone
No real replacement option because of: no or limited linux app-shop; no touch-id; no NFC.

Liberty Phone
No real replacement option because of: no or limited linux app-shop; no touch-id; no NFC.

Fairphone
No real replacement option because of: no or limited linux app-shop; no touch-id; no NFC.

SHIFTphone
No real replacement option because of: no or limited linux app-shop; no touch-id; no NFC.

Jolla Community Phone
No real replacement option because of: no or limited linux app-shop; no touch-id; no NFC.

Who will break out first?

Who will win the real Android/iOS (Google/Apple) alternative battle? Gnome based phones or QT based phones? For now it very much looks like QT will lose again!

QT based:
Ubuntu Touch and SailfishOS.
Strength: Works and has proven to work very well.
Weakness: QT development license cost.
Opportunities: If QT finds other earning models than licenses for developers, it could grow very fast and big.
Treads: Commercial conservatism.

GNOME based:
Plasma MobilepostmarketOSPureOS; TizenMobian OS.
Strength: GNOME is widely adapted in development environments.
Weakness: Still in the early development phase for mobile.
Opportunities: If QT fails to resolve its license cost, QT will disappear as a SmartPhone Linux option. Like what happened with the Linux Desktop. And GNOME will also dominate in the non-Android/non-iOS world.
Treads: If QT becomes available for developers for free sone enough, it will set the standard for Linux based smart-phones because it is currently technical superior.
